Congratulations to Sneha George and Jeremy Kostolni!  They are CFTE’s Athletes of the Month!

1. When and how did you get started with us? End of July- Before this, I never participated in athletic activities (at all!), so I was looking for a gym and workout program that will teach me to become physically stronger and athletic. CFTE was the best fit for what I needed mentally and physically to achieve this goal. 

2. Favorite workout? Least favorite workout? Fav: ones with lots of parts to it. Least Fav: ones with lots of wall-balls. 

3. What’s the wallpaper on your phone right now? A super lame Apple background of a flower. 

4. What’s your favorite book you have read? Stories of Your Life and Others 

5. What’s the last thing you searched for on Google? Flight prices

6. What’s your favorite flavor of Jolly Rancher? I’m more of a dessert person, not a fan of candy. 

7. What superpower would you want to possess? Flight! 

8. If you could travel anywhere outside of this planet, where would you go and why? Into a black hole because they’re so mysterious, and some scientists theorize that they may open to an alternate universe. 

9. What do you love most about CFTE? The “TE” part. As someone who used to think that I just wasn’t capable of athleticism, CFTE (coaches and members) really empowered me, mentally and physically, to realize my body’s capabilities and potential. – Sneha George

1. When and how did you get started with us?
I started at CFTE in June of 2017. Crossfit was recommended to me as a way of getting in shape for the physical portion of my black belt test. I came to CFTE because I had trained with Coach Dennis in the past, and I figured he would only work at a quality gym. As it turns out, I was right.

2. Favorite workout? Least favorite workout?

I tend to enjoy the “Chipper” workouts. Anything where I feel like I’ve really accomplished something. I generally don’t like the workouts that are more strength based.

3. What’s the wallpaper on your phone right now?

My lock screen is a Nelson Mandela quote, “I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it”. And my home screen is a picture I took of my favorite hat and beer while on vacation in Costa Rica  awhile ago.

4. What’s your favorite book you have read?

Recently I read “Platoon Leader: A Memoir of Command in Combat” By James R. McDonough. It was a relatively easy read and I was able to learn a lot about leadership from that book.

5. What’s the last thing you searched for on Google?

I looked up a video to send to my friend about a movie we watched recently

6. What’s your favorite flavor of Jolly Rancher?

Green apple. Definitely green apple.

7. What superpower would you want to possess?

The power to know how to connect with anyone I come in contact with.

8. If you could travel anywhere outside of this planet, where would you go and why?

I remember reading a quote from an astronaut about the sense of humanity one gets from looking at the Earth from space and how all our politics and borders that we surround ourselves with seem so insignificant. So I think I would just like to go up into space and just look at the world and see how amazing it truly is.

9. What do you love most about CFTE?

What really kept me at CFTE was no matter what class I went to when I first joined, there was always at least one member who came up to me and made me feel welcome at the gym. It helped me realize that I did fit in now I try to do that for others when I see newer people. – Jeremy Kostolni

Barbara Barone:

  1. I started crossfit over a year ago during a 6 week challenge and have been addicted ever since. Shout out to my fellow 6 weekers Andrew and Billy!
  2. Favorite workouts include squats and running. Least favorite workout is pull-ups.
  3. My baby boy, Luke! He’s my world!
  4. It’s hard to pick just one. I’m really into True Crime biographies and novels. The Ice Man: Confessions Of a Mafia Contract Killer is a must read.
  5. The lyrics to Bohemian Rhapsody. My son loves to sing Queen. This kid is going to be a hit at all of the Christmas parties!
  6. Grape 🍇
  7. The power of healing. (Maybe I could use some of that high speed regeneration to cure some of that crossfit soreness.)
  8. I’d scuba dive the ocean of Europa in search of new life.
  9. I love the sense of community. It’s such a positive atmosphere and everyone is super supportive. I am thankful to have met so many amazing people along the way!Tim Warner:
    1. When and how did you get started with us?
    I saw a Facebook ad for the six week challenge and thought I’d give it a try, at that point I had been running regularly but barely getting any crosstraining in. I felt that if I wanted to reach my goals I needed to do something drastically different.

    2. Favorite workout? Least favorite workout?

    My favorite would probably be anything involving deadlifts or squats, my least favorite would be double unders

    3. What’s the wallpaper on your phone right now?

    A picture of a pier at a local park where I like to run, it’s a great view of the bay and there’s always cormorants or other sea birds around

    4. What’s your favorite book you have read?

    I’m a complete bookworm, so it’s hard to pick just one… but in the last couple years the ones that stuck with me the most were Ernest Cline’s “Ready Player One”, and Cormac McCarthy’s “The Road”

    5. What’s the last thing you searched for on Google?

    ‘can an svn to git migration include history’

    6. What’s your favorite flavor of Jolly Rancher?

    Grape

    7. What superpower would you want to possess?

    Flight

    8. If you could travel anywhere outside of this planet, where would you go and why?

    Above the event horizon, the point of no return, at Sagittarius A*, the supermassive black hole at the center of the galaxy. If it’s anything like the artist’s renditions of what it might look like, it would be a trip

    9. What do you love most about CFTE?

    There’s a sense of common purpose that I get at CFTE that I’ve never had at any other gym. Every workout is something fresh and I know that everybody present will give it their all. I may grow comfortable with certain exercises, but there is always a challenge ahead.

CFTE ATHLETES OF THE MONTH!

“I started in March of this year, I’m friends with Connie & she’s been telling me about CFTE for a long time. I was at a different point in my fitness journey in March & was ready for a change. I came to a Thursday night 5pm class & joined by the time I left that night! 
Favorite workout would be anything with squats & deadlifts! And because of CF I now like running too!
Least favorite is anything involving the jump ropes honestly
I only workout @ the 5pm on Thursdays, I do the 6pm mostly & the 10am on Saturdays—I love the people I’ve met from going at different times, I’ve made some good friends @ CFTE
The wallpaper on my phone says “Good Vibes – Pura Vida” because I try to bring good vibes wherever I go 🙂 
My experience @ CFTE has been like no other. I’ve never felt stronger & better about myself in my whole life. The positivity that’s encouraged throughout the workouts has helped push me to challenge myself & fight to finish every wod. The coaches are so supportive & really care about us as not only athletes but as people too. It’s truly a wonderful place & I am so glad I joined!! ” -Amy

Here is what they had to say to the fun questions we asked them:

When and how did you get started with us?
February 2017. My friend told me about CrossFit and convinced me to try it and I ended up loving it.

Favorite workout?
Deadlifts and lately pull ups.

 

Least favorite workout?
Anything with burpees!

 

What’s the best part about working out with the 10am?
I love how it is usually the same people at this time and we all encourage each other to keep going. Everyone who comes is amazing.

 

What’s the wallpaper on your phone right now?
My tortoise.

What’s your overall experience been like here at CFTE?
Everything about CFTE has been amazing. I look forward to coming here and don’t dread exercise as much. It has changed my outlook on being healthy and wanting to make a change for the better. Everyone is so encouraging and it has the safest and most amazing environment I’ve experienced.  – Jenn Siemann

When and how did you get started with us?
I got started in June 2017. I had always been doing workouts at home like Insanity: Max 30 but even though the workouts were difficult, I started to get bored, especially because I did them by myself. My older brother, who’s a Crossfit coach back home in the Bahamas, had been telling me for years that I should try it out. I wish I had listened to him sooner. After visiting a few different boxes, CFTE was by far the most inviting and welcoming. I knew after the first WOD that I would be joining and it’s been a great few months. 

Favorite workout?
Probably rope climbs and/or muscle ups just because depending on how the WOD is structured always changes their difficulty for me. 

Least favorite workout?
No question man makers and atomic anything (sit ups, walls balls, whatever other movements there are)

What’s the best part about working out with the 6am?
The fact that people are so alert in this class amazes me. Initially, I was going to the 8 pm class but I had to change that to 6am because of my work schedule. Best parts of the class are the people there that are always encouraging one another and the coaches that are always pushing me and helping me improve. 

What’s the wallpaper on your phone right now?
I’m pretty boring. The same wallpaper that came with the phone. 

What’s your overall experience been like here at CFTE?
My overall experience has been beyond amazing. My fellow athletes, the coaches, the WODs, the environment, everything. Like I said before, I wish I started Crossfit earlier but if the delay is what brought me to CFTE instead of another box, I’m glad I waited. I look forward to seeing everyone, including myself, progress over time and become better and better. In starting to set goals and I’m confident CFTE is the best place for me to achieve them. – Kolin Sweeting

What’s your overall experience been like here at CFTE?

Amazing, there is no better way to describe it. It’s become my second family and second home. On days I’m not there I miss seeing everyone and being there. The environment just makes you want to be better and worker harder, the coaches are amazing, the people are amazing. It’s all around an awesome experience every time. – Matt
