CFTE Athletes of the Month!

Congratulations to Stephanie Carlstrom and Mike Belfiore for they are CFTE Athletes of the month!  Here is what they had to say:

When and how did you get started with us?
I started at CFTE in January 2016 for a 6 week challenge after seeing an ad for it online. Despite my hesitation to initially try CrossFit, I am so glad I decided to try it- let alone keep up with it and became a member after the challenge was over.

Favorite workout?
I definitely love my back squats and push presses. Also any workouts that provide me opportunities with working on pull ups, and honestly.. I oddly enjoy burpees. In moderation, of course!

Least favorite workout?
Even though my running has gotten much better since starting at CFTE, seeing an 800 meter run for multiple rounds on the board is quite the mood killer.

What’s the best part about working out with the 7pm?
After a long day at work, my favorite part of working out with the 7PM crew is coming to unwind and have fun together. I love the bond we all have while going through the same thing and how everyone motivates each other. Special shout out to my boys Coach Mike and Coach Vinny for always pushing me to go the extra mile!

What’s the wallpaper on your phone right now?

What’s your overall experience been like here at CFTE?
Throughout the years, I always had trouble finding a routine to stick with and more importantly, something that actually gave me results. Ever since my first day at CFTE I’ve seen nothing but results. Not only have I lost significant weight, I am both the healthiest and strongest I’ve ever been and have done things I thought I’d never do. Stepping out of my comfort zone and stepping into CFTE has truly changed my life and I am eternally grateful! Not only do I love the way I look and feel, but I have also met so many caring, amazing people along the way and tons of new friends who encourage me to try my best everyday.

When and how did you get started with us?
All day long I’m preaching to my patients that exercise is a major component of good health.  Regardless of their age, illness, and physical condition some form of exercise can be implemented and could show benefit.  Being an anti/aging functional medicine physician I was starting to feel old with my sedentary lifestyle.  I decided to start practicing what i was preaching especially dealing with lifestyle medicine.  During Spring of 2016, I saw a facebook ad for a six week challenge, my work schedule didn’t allow me to do it, so i had to wait for the summer challenge. Before CFTE, I was the perfect gym member (paid every month, didn’t go).  I was looking for something different.  All I ever heard was bad press about Crossfit, but you would never guess that from the feedback I received from ALL of my patients ages 15-78 who currently participate in Crossfit.  I didn’t receive the rave reviews from patients who were going to other gyms and clubs as I did from the patients who attended Crossfit. So I gave it a shot.  The six week challenge was 3 days/week. Since it’s completion I’ve been doing 4-8 sessions/week (averaging 5-6) including barbell club!!! I’m so impressed with the program, I also got my daughter “Kat” to join as well, she’s progressing rapidly and having a great time too .

 
 
Favorite workout?
Usually something sick, twisted and challenging and doesn’t involve double unders- i.e. “death by front squats (Barbell Club), ” any of the hero workouts.
 
 
Least favorite workout?
Oh, did I already say DOUBLE UNDERS??? I must owe you guys about a dozen jump ropes…or any exercise that ends in “NO REP!!!”
 
 
What’s the best part about working out with the 5pm?
Doesn’t matter what day or what time. All that matters is that you’re there!!!  I usually workout sunday, early mornings, mid-mornings and late evenings.  I love the team vibe from all sessions! With the 6 am crew the coffee hasn’t kicked in yet while 7 pm everyone is burning off post-work adrenaline.  I have something in common with almost everyone there.  It really is a nurturing community!!!!

What’s your overall experience been like here at CFTE?
Science-wise:  The science is there and it’s correct and proper.  Everyone I’ve seen has been showing great results.  I love how technical, safety minded and properly trained our coaches are. They are on-spot with modern technique and all are models of motivation. 
 
Physically:  Everyone has noticed the changes. I’ve lost around 50 lbs since starting, my lifts have gone up in weight tremendously.  I CAN DO BOX JUMPS AND LUNGES!!! My recovery is quick.  I’m needing less rest periods now and completing almost all of the workouts whether they be scaled or not.
 
Professionally:  I prescribe CFTE to all of my patients!!!
Emotionally:  I look forward to getting my butt kicked every session!!! Whether I crush it or it crushes me, I walk out with feeling a sense of accomplishment. I get a kick out of with working out with my fellow athletes. They as well as the coaches have now become an essential part of my day.  I especially look forward to daddy-daughter workouts when our schedules allow.  I never thought exercise could and would be so much fun!!!!
